ChinaGuitar.Com: How do you go about writing solos? Do you go about the progression analytically and think what you can do scale wise with each section, or is it a series of improvisational techniques. JoeBecker:Normally, I just try to write the right solo for the song. It starts out kind of how you described, but whatever scale, technique or idea I'm playing with at the time will creep it's way into the finished product somehow. So if you hear some weird scale, or a ton of tapping or a ton of arpeggios in a song I played on then you know I was playing with one of those things earlier in the week previous to that recording.
ChinaGuitar.Com: Have you ever been to P.R.China? JoeBecker:No, not yet.
ChinaGuitar.Com: What do you think about P.R.China? JoeBecker:I've seen it on television and I think it's VERY beautiful. The culture, history and art are beyond impressive. VERY influencial.
ChinaGuitar.Com: Could you say something to guitar fans and internet friends in P.R. China? JoeBecker:You guys support American musicians while our own country cannot. Thank you. Also, here’s a short video clip I did at home for CHOPS FROM HELL on what I call the, “Chineze” scale. I misspelled it intentionally because I don’t think it’s notationally correct………it only sounds Chinese to me. It will probably sound Chinese to you too. Anyway, since we’re on the topic, here it is. I hope you like it : http://chopsfromhell.com/becker4_ex1.wmv
